Yes, I realized that when reading about it. I sure hope they will be able to supply this service to the rest of the world, because the site as such was great. ๐Ÿ™‚

If Hopscotch hadn't explicitly asked for bands, my list would have been longer and included Shostakovich.

Recced for similar taste.

Also Smetana. Also Rachmaninoff, Bela Bartok, Pacabel,
Pablo Casals (cellist) Andre Segovia (classical guitar god)
Ida Presti and Alexander LaGoya (classical guitar duo gods)
Martin Simpson (folk guitar god)
Davy Graham (early scotts guitar legend)
Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, Blind Blake, Reverand Gary
Davis, Papa John Creach, Backwards Sam Firk (my teach),
George Cromarty, Rory Block (learned blues on the knees of the
great ones at her dads sandle shop, Alan block sandle shop in
brooklyn, her first gig was at Carnegie Hall at the age of 14,
Phenomenal acoustic blues goddess)
Ry Cooder, check out 'Paradise and Lunch' has a guitar-piano
duo with a real piano legend, Earl 'fatha' Hinds, a cut called
Ditty Wah Ditty.
If you are into vocals, check out Cry Cry Cry.
Phenomenal accapella and great songs by Richard Shindell,
Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky.
If you like acoustic american old timey or would like to check it out,
try Norman Blake, Far away on a Georgia Farm and Fields of
November.
Another genius in this genre is Freida Epstein and Acoustic Attitude,
She taught John McCutcheon the fiddle. Check him out also.
Mick Maloney is a pretty famous Irishman here in Philly, had a group
called Greenfields of America, great irish music, the musicians
were all winners of the all-ireland music contests.
There are many more I could think of but don't want to have a
ten thousand word document here. Good luck.

I will second BB's recommendation of Gomez.
If the Beatles had stayed together long enough to start jamming with Led, they would have eventually stumlbed across what Gomez has been doing since they started.

I think they have completely blown up, but the Matthew Good Band is worth a listen, as well.

He's not a band, but certainly records with one, Bruce Cockburn is difficult to beat as a singer/songwriter.

Pure pop, try Wes Cunningham.

It works for me in South Africa - maybe because I've got a .com address, but my connection is slow, so it's very bitty. But a great project and great idea. Thanks.

I don't think they've got any mines in Mocambique.

If you like Zappa, then you like quirky - look out for Shriekback (Black Light Trap is stunning) and also Pavlov's Dog. Both oldish bands, but different.
In fact, Shriekback is probably right up your street - from a Zappa man.
