I second Starrman about Arcade Fire.
I have all the Decemberists, I think my girlfriend has Arcade Fire but it didn't hold my attention.

Please recommend some bands to me, along with a reason for your recommendation. Don't bother with the obvious, I already have over 11 Frank Zappa albums.[/b]
Bell and Sebastian.

They are from Glasgow. I really like them, because they write good songs with nice melodies. Quite fine guiter playing and other instruments as well. Softish vocal. but not as sad as Nick Drake.

No way! Check out either Liquid Skin or Bring it On (I reckon this is better, it is also their first album).

I can't put into words how good these guys are, especially if you keep in mind how young they were when they recorded the first album.

Edit - this is a far from CD quality sample at amazon - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/wma-pop-up/-/B00000AETS001003/102-6004128-7532160

Leonard Cohen is a singer song writer. As far as I know he has never played keyboards on anything.

If the Beatles had stayed together long enough to start jamming with Led, they would have eventually stumlbed across what Gomez has been doing since they started.

I think they have completely blown up, but the Matthew Good Band is worth a listen, as well.

He's not a band, but certainly record ...[text shortened]... kburn[/b] is difficult to beat as a singer/songwriter.

Pure pop, try Wes Cunningham.[/b]
beatles plus led zep = gomez, do me a favour. gomez is la la synth student pop. come on, thats just musical mish mash

Thanks kyue, but bands like Belle and Sebastian make me feel like I'm in a coma that is never going to end.
