I think you left out part of your post- it should read "most people, not just Syrians or something have a real problem with America when it comes to getting a visa or earning citizenship."

I have no proof other than what I know about immigration and the anecdotal opinions of all the people I work with who are originally from other countries (11 different countries that I can think of off hand), but I feel pretty confident that if all the people in the world were given the opportunity to start over in another country, the US population would swell far far beyond its current level, and some countries would be practically depopulated.

I see far too much evidence to the contrary at work to buy into all the "everybody hates the US" mantra that some media types love repeating.

There will always be those who have a stereotype of a culture and who won't be bashful about sharing their opinions, but any time we start talking about aggregates that include a number as large as the population of the earth, we probably left accuracy and relevance on the train station platform a few stops back.
