I am nearly 50 years old. When I was 18 it was suggested I get bi focals. All this time I have gotten single vision glasses. Today I got a pair of bi focals. To me now everything seems to be out of focus or not in the right range to see it. 😞
Any other players here who play OTB chess semi blindfolded??

Originally posted by Ice ColdI've had bifocals for years (I think since I was 8). They take a little getting used to, but it can be difficult to look at things in the intermediate range, around a meter away. If this is a real problem, maybe ask about trifocals. Another problem can be weird glare off the division between the lenses, because the little "lip" where one half of the lens is thicker than the other is a reflective surface; I eventually got lenses with the line blurred, which solves this problem (I think they're called "transitions" ), but these take even more getting used to.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_lenses
Progressive lenses, also called progressive addition lenses (PAL), progressive power lenses, graduated lenses and varifocal lenses, are corrective lenses used in eyeglasses to correct presbyopia and other disorders of accommodation. They are characterised by a gradient of increasing lens power, added to the wearers correction for the other refraction errors. The gradient starts at a minimum, or no addition power, at the top of the lens and reaches a maximum addition power, magnification, at the bottom of the lens. The length of the progressive power gradient on the lens surface is usually between 15 and 20 mm with a final addition power between 1.00 to 2.50 Dioptres for most wearers. The addition value prescribed depends on the level of presbyopia of the patient and is closely related to age.
