Heya All,

I'll be taking my 1st trip to Ireland for a b'day celebration and was hoping someone could recommend a good pub/town for chess and Guinness. I'll be spending most of the time in/around Dingle but will have car for excursions. Of course would enjoy the chance to meet any RHPers if anyone would be up for a pint and a game

thx,
Steve

When I organised the Ireland meet there were a lot of people from that area, try messaging Derbrad or Leonard Leader, they run the Irish clans, get them to message their clans. I'm too far away unfortunatly but good luck, and enjoy the Guinness. 🙂

I'll play you in Killarney, if you make it over. Let me know closer to the time.

Thanks, will send them a PM. As for the Guinness... started drinking it in US, when I could find it. Now living in UK, more chances to have it obviously, with varying quality (IMHO), now looking forward to tasting it in it's homeland!

Cool!

Just had a quick peek, seems that's a national park (in case you didn't know 😉 ) Would that be worth a side trip for a day or 2? Looks like we'll be getting a place in Dingle but will be looking for day/over night trips

Muckross House and gardens are nice. Torc waterfall is pretty. If you like tramping, there are some great walks around, like Torc Mountain for eg, 2hours in total, or Carantouhill (highest mountain in Ireland) makes a nice climb, about 4-5 hours for low fitness levels.
Dingle is magic, give a spin back the Dingle Peninsula, or head out to the Blasket Islands.
If you're into Diving, Castlegregory has a couple of nice dive sites.

If you go over the Conor Pass, there are a couple of places on the side of the road, where you can park. You can do a 5 minute wander up the mountain from them, and find really nice secluded lakes and small waterfalls.

The Ring of Kerry has to be done. Allow the whole day, and take it easy, stopping off regularly, Sneem, Kenmare, Caherdaniel are nice places to stop and have a swim/wander if the weather is decent.

Thanks Ragnorak, adding your suggestions to our trip plans, which at this point had only including drinking Guinness (and hopefully a game or two)

If you're into Seafood, then lunch in Out of The Blue on Dingle's peer is obligatory.
