I heard someone talking today about how Oprah has negatively impacted our culture especially for men. He said that he hears from men all the time that men have lost control of their families because the women (wives) are always saying, "well, Oprah says...." This stirred up some conversation-disagreement in my home as I heard my wife yesterday coaching Oprah while looking at TV. (Yea, Oprah, kick his a**). I believe this man is right. In the eyes of women, Oprah can do no wrong.

i'm sure she's not helping but i think the root of that problem is that this country (US), and many other industialized countries, look to the TV to provide them with guidance and culture. I'm sure people take the advice of Oprah and Dear Abby way more than their own elders, when it's thier elders who actually care about the quality of thier lives. People need to realize that anything capitalistic is not in the best interest of the buyer, only the seller.

Originally posted by kirksey957If there were *sides* then yeah, Oprah and many women would be on one side and *men in control of their families* would be on another, as the latter implies that men rule rather than being equal partners. I don't watch television enough to have Oprah or Dr. Phil or anyone else be my guiding star, so to speak. I disagree with the *elders* part though, as one half of my family tree fits the poor white trash category, and their idea of wisdom is pretty scary.

Did you think Oprah and Steadman have failed to tie the knot because Oprah, she too strong?
They have failed to do so, because Steadman, he too weak.
