FYI - the rest of the world call it football.
1) Association Football - this was shortened to "soccer"
2) Rugby Football
3) American Football
4) Australian rules Football.
to name a few
My father certainly refers to 1 as soccer and 2 as football - if somebody said fancy a game of "football" I would think I was playing 1. But am personally just as comfortable calling it soccer.
The Aussies certainly refer to it as scoccer hence the socceroos.
As to the original question my definition of a sport is when one person or team can beat another without opinion - therefore iceskating which requires scores from judges is not a sport to me. I have to say there are many "sports" that I consider sports which fall slightly outside this which I just sortg of accept - for instnace LBW in cricket is an opinion etc. It also means Darts is a sport which is hard to justify!
