Me and the Wife saw an IMAX film about the African Savannah, which followed in part the migration of a herd of wildebeasts. The wildebeasts had to cross a crocodile infested river in both directions of the annual migration. The crocs slaughtered them. Totally inhumane. Someone should build a bridge for those poor wildebeasts; think of the mental anguish of the survivors; think of the dread knowing that you must make the dangerous journey; think of the heartless souls that get their enjoyment by watching the wildebeasts suffer.

There is a big difference between the the balance of nature at work (the death of a proportion of wilderbeast crossing the river, which helps the crocodiles to survive) and human intervention in the for the purposes of cosmetic advancement (the mass captive breeding of animals for chemical tests to be carried out on them in laboratories).

Oh, I see, it is only inhumane when humans take some sort of action, but not if they take no action.

Got it, thanks for the insight.

I've got nothing against the crocs, but couldn't they find their meals elsewhere. I mean, the fear on the young wildebeasts faces is so evident. Are you that heartless man?!?

Anti-science pansy. I'd happily launch hamsters out of spud gun tubes for the sake of science. Think of all the children will learn about hamster biology and physics. The children, that's where the real horror lies... the horror... the horror....

I feel sorry for the wilderbeast, however if the Crocs didn't feed off them they'd die out and we'd all end up feeling sorry for them (like Phlab above) instead. This is not inhumane, it reflects an understand of what other animals must do to survive.

A group of humans standing on the riverbank shooting the wilderbeast for trophys is inhumane.

It is also inhumane to breed animals in captivity for cosmetic testing.

You'd better strengthen your argument here or the forum crocs will have you in no time.

They make a spud gun that you can shoot small children from?

Is it inhumane to breed animals for eating? I hope not. Do you think the companies breed animals to test new BBQ sauces on? Hmmmmm, BBQ. 😀

Besides, the crocs eat during the rest of the year don't they? Or do they only eat when the wildebeasts cross. Boy, I wouldn't want to be a croc then, only eating two times a year. 🙁

I have a pet snake and he eats live mice. I don't particularly like feeding him live mice. I don't want the mice to suffer, but unfortunately that's just the way nature operates. Animals have to consume other animals or else we'd be overrun with rats, antelopes. pigs...whatever. It's a delicate balance and unfortunately, fear, cruelty and death help to maintain that balance. It also helps with evolution. I understand how you feel, but we can't expect lions to eat lettuce and crocs to eat tofu. It just doesn't work that way.

Are you seriously trying to point out how flawed that analogy is? Good grief man, this is the *general* forum, not some kind of elite debating club where nuance, knowledge and reason are appreciated. Now go wash your mouth with soap.

I didn't know crocs were capable of pity or compassion.

As for wildebeast. Have you ever heard of the food chain? Crocs eat all the wildebeast they kill. They don't do it for sport. They do it from necessity. Any pieces of meat that escapes the crocs clutches feeds fish and birds and whatever carnivores chance upon it. This is an entirely acceptable occurance of any ecosystem. In fact, predators can often help herds by weeding out the weaker individuals to make the group as a whole stronger.

LOL.

I think you better just drop it as you're coming across as rather clueless. Crocs can go upto 18 months without eating, so that 1 gorgefest a year may be all they eat.
