I think it speaks to adolescent sense of despair and also the hope that the elderly sometimes have before they die. And then the mother! Oh , my Lord, where to begin with her. Interestingly enough, there is no father figure for Harold except the military uncle. The psychiatrist is a hoot. Classic freudian psychoanalytic stuff.
People who liked Harold and Maude,
Why did you like the film? I saw it but didn't think too highly of it but since it was a long time ago I may have missed things I would now appreciate. What would you say was special about it?
I identify with so many aspects of this movie which may be why I like it so much. Did you see anything unusual on Maude's forearm? It holds the key to why hope is so important to her. I have used parts of this film in several funerals that I have preached and it has always been well received inspite of its irreverent nature. Give it another look and keep looking at her forearm.
