My all-time favorite for years and years has been Casablanca. One of the best films ever made, if not the best.
I still cry every time I see it.
Casablanca (Bogart/Bergman), if not the best, is a milestone to see again and again.
Other movies worth of mention are Cabaret, Doctor Zhivago (sp?), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, to name a few.

It works on so many different levels. It is a comedy, yet there are very profound scenes as when they have a picnic in the graveyard. I think it speaks to adolescent sense of despair and also the hope that the elderly sometimes have before they die. And then the mother! Oh , my Lord, where to begin with her. Interestingly enough, there is no father ...[text shortened]... ceived inspite of its irreverent nature. Give it another look and keep looking at her forearm.
