Legacy (poem)

You wear your sunlight like no other
This moment of light I cannot believe
Your grace of beauty bedazzles me

You carry time so gently; so cautious
Seconds away will be forever lost
Relish in this warm light capturing us

Summer suited you like the finest dress
I so much wish for you to wear it again
But I'll cherish this memory most when in pain

You say to me, in honesty proclaim:
"Should I find myself die in a hurry,
I want you to know you made everything worth it"

I want to say, truthfully and clear
I want you to know that your every spring
has lifted me up as though I had wings

You wear your sunlight with such grace
and it's been a remarkable honour to live;
to relish in your light, an honour to me

So I hope for time to respond in kind
For you have earned it like no other
To me you are most momentous, mother

But now fifteen years to the day
And still the pain is most real
Invading me like hardened steel

The tears of blood desperately falling
The wound so ulcerated and foul
Everything is darkness; I'm blind

I've lost everything of value
Without your guidance I cannot move
Without your wisdom I cannot do

I will try to remember clearly
How you wore sunlight like you were it's essence;
how worries would dissipate in your presence

And this is what I will try to teach
What you showed me by your very being
That to keep going in face of pain; that has true meaning
