I found myself in a mess last week that I have not felt very good over. I was in the anti-american thread and something just clicked and I found myself going after pradtf and richhoey in the forums for no reason at all. I just was angry at the world.
I took some time thinking about why I was so upset and I realize it is for the same reason that I only visit RHP occasionally now.
It is the war in Iraq, and my emotional committment to it. With all the death and violence still going on... I have great uncontrolable anger.
It is directed first at the people who are killing innocent people just to further their vision of a totalitarian islamic world.
Then at all the intelligence agencies. Starting with the UN. They were the inept buggers who built the list of what was 'Definitely There'. They were wrong. Then the US and British screwups came along and made a bad situation worse. Then instead of saying We have proof that this is not so... the rest of the world just tried to hide their oil contracts and prevented any unanimous vote at the UN.
None of this matters except to what it has done to my head. I am angry and frustrated and humilitated and can't figure how to make it right with the world. Starting at RHP, I guess the only thing I can do at this point is to apologize to prad and rich and go on from here.
I never went into the war thinking there was any relavence to WMD and I never will think that is important. I am angry at myself because, like Bush, I thought that once the people were free... they would rejoice and form their own government. I was wrong. They only want to avoid trouble and at this point I must just plain say 'These people are aliens. They don't think like I do.' and leave it at that.
Then there is Bush getting out of active duty because he is rich. That goes right along with OJ getting away with murder. Both make me mad as hell. Then there is Kerry. A traitor to the cause of freedom in SE asia and africa. He lied about the COMMON SOLDIERS. I really don't care about his other lies... but his lies against his fellow grunts and swabs is unforgiveable because HE ONLY WENT AS A RICH kid so he could be elected to office. He is the political hack in every military movie ever made who is nothing but a butt kissing fool.
So I am left devistated. Nothing ain't going to work out well in this mess. I am almost to the point now where I just say 'To hell with it. Just get out now, let the bad guys rule and when we [the US] get Jimmy Carter II in the form of Kerry... just laugh.
It is a bad world for me right now.

The Iraqi war is a mess and there are no winners, no matter what your point of view is. It looks as if you are having some doubt about the statements made by politicans before the war - the WMD, the welcoming of freedom.It is possible for people to believe what they want to believe - that is one explanation for the failure to understand the reality of pre-invasion Iraq. The other is that they knew all along and lied to the pople who elected them.
I understand Kerry has made some allegations concerning the conduct of American soldiers in Viet-Nam. Is this what you are referring to? Since Kerry was there in the front lines and saw if first hand, how can you be so sure he is a liar?
You're doing it agian SVW. Do you remember all those posts concerning appologies for misdeeds in days passed by?
Can you see, from our point of view, that the situation we find ourselves in is exactly what us "liberals" ( ---- whatever that means) wanted the US to avoid? Does that really make us "chickens?"
We all want the same thing man. We all want peace and a sense of security that only holding your enemies in check can provide. But, Iraq was in a dire check already. Their king was pinned back at g1 with no piece to shield him, and we had a rook on b2 with a queen ready to deliver the final death blow at a1. We requested a draw, and Irag refused. Rather than give Iraq time to reconsider, to change its mind (and does not a situation of this gravity deserve time, time, time, more time, more time, as much time as it takes as long as we and our interests are not threatened by this weak and dilapidated state?), rather than to continue to handle the situation with inspectors and monitors and embargos and no fly zones ...... which was working perfectly, effectively rendering Iraq nearly defenseless, certainly not the "imminent threat" it was hailed to be.....rather than continuing on this route, the US hastily rams its mistress to a1, and, as we all well know, there is no turning back from that. Checkmate. And here we are today.
I'm pissed off too my friend. And I think we should be pissed off for essentially the same reasons. We should be pissed off about the situation we find ourselves in now. Hell, not that we find OURSELVES IN, but the dire situation in which many tens of thousands of American soldiers and their family members and friends find themselves in. They're the ones in "the situation", and for what? For what? Families are losing their husbands and fathers and brothers and sons and daughters and sisters! Thousands of Americans are going through hell! What can we tell them are the reasons that this loss was necessary? Is there a good reason? I'm not directing that specifically at you SVW, it's just a general question, open to anyone. I think that we should be pissed off together, and we should want to get the US out of Iraq. Let Iraqis handle their country. If it turns to civil war, so be it. That's exactly the way our country became the great country it is today. If that's what it takes, is it not worth it? Has it not been worth it? And what if they don't succeed? What if Iraq just continues along the path of inner war, conflict and squabble? Well, it certainly wouldn't be out of place in the mideast. I feel terrible for those people in Iraq too, but what more can we accomplish there? They were better off with Saddam than they are now. I think we've "helped" enough. Let's let them have their country back, and let's stop the tide of Amercan deaths. Let's spend the 50 billion more dollars about to be proposed for the "war against terrorism" we are fighting against Afghanistan and Iraq (most of it dog eared for Iraq of course) ..... let's spend that 50 billion on aid to the Iraqis, to help them build their country, to have a chance to succeed. Isn't that so much better than continuing to spend billions and billions of dollars on death and destruction towards no end? That's the only course of action now. I think the only way for us to stop feeling so pissed off is if this begins very, very soon.
I don't think our thoughts are too far apart, are they SVW? On the major points, are they? I know you're angry, and part of the reason is that you were duped. But all we can do is reevaluate and learn from what has happened here and to not make the same mistake in the future. We can only go forward. We just need to progress. We need Progress, we need to make changes in order to make things better, to make things right, more just. We need reason to lead us. I think this is where many "liberals" stand on the issue.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention. You meant "allusions" rather than "illusions." You should cut out some of the potty mouthing and instead focus your efforts and energies on working towards strengthening your command of the English language. Good luck with that.

you say crazy rubbish in amongst all sorts of deep and meaningfulls, you obviously see and know lots- you live by emotions, man noone else could come up with the stuff you do.
i like your stuff. it confuses me and twists me cos you so blatantly mix emotion in over and above logic, in a more genuine manner than our mainstream media.
