My Russian teacher has asked me to marry her. No, she doesn't fancy me, she just wants to get into the UK. I said NO!
I understand this is quite common among Russian girls.
She doesn't see the problem, but there are, at least, ten major reasons why this would be a very very stupid move, for me. (One of them is that I've seen prettier girls in Stoke-on-Trent).
I won't elaborate, it's just that I've decided to keep this a secret and posting here is a way of telling people without telling people.
Has anybody been proposed to by somebody in this way?

Did you say yes?
People who use drugs are losers.

But there are lots of men who put adds up for such things trying to get into Canada. Mostly from Turkey. Go figure.
I would gladly accept a marriage of convienience in order to get out of here and live somewhere warm and tropical. 😀
I have two friends who did that. a turkish girl and a finnish guy. -they met on a vacation in turkey, and decided to get married so she could get out of the country.
so, after wedding, the girl moved into finland, and they started living as roommates. after about three years, they started dating, and have been a regular married couple since then. about six years now, I think. and very happy.
sometimes things don't happen in the order you thought they would.

And when my visa comes up for renewal, I'll get married again.
Does she want to live with you? Hey, will she cook for you, wash your socks and iron your shirts, look pretty on your arm down the pub, and shag you? How much will she pay you? What are the tax benefits for you (as well as the undisclosed sum she wants to give you...)? Will you still have to pay for the Russian lessons? Do you want to go to Russia in the future (no visa problems for you, forever...) Loads of reasons to consider it...
The reasons not to do it are few and simple:
Not enough money;
Your conscience;
Your family/friends will disown you;
The word "Divorced" on your CV;
Oh yeah, and it's not really "legal", is it?
A few things to consider first, though:
If she wants to stay in the UK, you have to remain married for 3-5 years...
Does she only want the civilian status (visa)?
Love grows, you might end up happy families with loads of kids...
