According to www.marca.es, Materazzi called Zidane "islamic terrorist", hence pushing the French to miss a beautiful headbutt on Materazzi's nose, aiming just at the chest.

Interviewed right after landing on Italy, Materazzi said "it's not true, I didn't call him terrorist. I am an ignorant and I don't even know what terrorist or islamic mean"

Opinions on Materazzi's sincerity, please?

Lip readers in Brazil have said that Materazzi twice called Zidane's sister a prostitute. I am not saying I believe this.

I think the nature of Materazzi's denial will raise a few eyebrows, but it doesn't mean he did say what he is alleged to have said.

Only two people know for sure, the rest of us will have to wait, or may never know.

I think he probably may be that stupid. You know? Being italian and all? We all know about italians. Right? A daily dose of spaghetti just don't do much for the higher brain functions. 😀

Another story was that he called his parent's terrorist's as he is from Algeria, from the French camp, but from the Italian camp he was supposed to of said that he would like the shirt off of ZZ's wife's back, after ZZ offered MM his shirt after the game would finish.
We will never know the truth really.

He's pretty clever though. I think we can all agree on that (despite my sarcastic post above). I mean, he managed to get Zidane to lose his temper and thereby practically securing the win for Italy. We all know that Italy would have lost if Zidane was still there. Right? Italians! They can't do anything right and still win. It's all that spaghetti, see?

I don't care about the insult, provided it was not racist or centred around religion. That is the last thing we need clouding an otherwise great occasion.

Remember, while Zidane may have made the difference, we'll never know, consider:

A Italy hit the bar twice and had a goal disallowed. They played well.

B Trezeguet would still have taken a penalty and regardless of Zidane scoring or not, it only took one miss as Italy scored all 5. How could ZZ have affected that?

C ZZ played for 110 minutes and did nothing but the penalty (which nearly missed) and a header which was good but he should have done better.

So what would really have happened had he stayed on to change the result?

And anyway, I don't care, Italy won so, ner.

If my team had to win by resorting to cheating and low-life insulting, then I would disown them and use lots of drugs.

I think Zidane insulted Materazzi first, and he retaliated with an insult of his own that flipped Zidane over the edge.
So, in summary - Materazzi is better at insults than Zidane.
No insult should provoke that reaction, whether it's racist or about his mother or anything.

Nearly all sportsmen and women use insults and winding up techniques during games. As Lineker said after the incident, that happen's like every five minutes during games so he should be able to take it, whatever the insult.

I called my opponent in a darts game a fat git once, he was. So were all the rest of his team, and their reserves, and their B team, and the whole of the Stourbridge and District Wednesday night league.

Oh stop it! 😠 Italy would have lost and you know it!!!

Italians are known for their water flour mushy thing going on inside their heads. If I can't outrun them, let's trip them. Or better yet. Let's have it seem like they're tripping me.

Italians! They're no good for anything. No good I tell ya'! In thirty or so years we will all look back on this day and wonder how the heck we could allow the italians to take over. "Europe was a pretty nice place until the italians showed up.", we'll say. 🙁

Spaghetti! Pfffuit... 😞

They began with football and they will end only when we are all eating spaggethi and sipping Chianti. Italy. If you want a mushy brain and a beautiful girl giving only to swedish men on vacation. Italy, the land of... uhm... well, a disclaimer. So don't be mad at me. I'm just the messenger. 😀
