It's used in Italy as "f you". I'm not sure, but it looked like Materazzi at the end, while Zidane was running away from him, just said "Hey", Zidane turned to see what he wanted to say and he just said "Vaffanculo".

Bam.

That's right. But my impression is that it's not as strong or shocking as "F you" tends to be in English.

I was playing a team about 3 weeks ago and I was playing right wingback. My opponent was a quite short little fella with some serious attitude who kept getting mouthy with me. Anyway I let my playing do the talking, didn't give him any of the ball and he was getting quite frustrated. When he did get the ball I would give him a meter head start and he was called offside about 4 times. On the last occasion he yelled to the ref "Bull****, it's not my fault he can’t keep up". Anyway I said that he was a joke and I have been all over him for the whole game. He replied with "like I was all over your mother last night". Luckily I was able to muster some quick wit and responded with "that's impossible because my mother doesn’t go for midgets". Long story short, anyone within earshot started laughing (even the ref) and he took a swing. He missed and got sent off.

If he had the ball, then it isn't offside. 🙄

Well played sir. It's a pity players like Rooney and Zidane can't follow your fine example. No wait a second, they don't get paid enough to.
