More like Stalin. Lenin, at least, honestly thought he was doing the right thing. (Whether he was is another matter; but he was honest about his intentions.) Stalin, by contrast, was only out for his own power - and so is Putin.

Ho-hum.

My country, as far as I am aware, never shot down a single airliner.

May Putin fester in the same grave as Ray-gun Ronnie and Terrorist Dayan.

A sentiment I can understand.

But as other posters it is hard to believe that it will fulfill its promise.

At this moment heavy fighting is reported. Experience says that even if a truce is achieved, the last position is frozen, so there is some incentive to obtain as much gain as possible beforehand.
Then the concept of "withdrawal of heavy weaponry" is soft at the very least and will most liely give rise to some dispute.
Then Putin probably can't really control the separatists activity. And he won't actually force them to swallow the hard bits, since this would severly damage his standing in Russia.

But hope dies last.

The topic was Ukraine-Russia.

Of course it isn't okay to shoot down any civilian plane no matter who you are.

No one was throwing stones and living in glass houses. You know what they say about people who assume things.

Are you suggesting no one ever attack an evil deed unless they mention every other similar deed in history because they would be "throwing stones"?

That's really stupid.
