Does anybody have problems giving small amounts of blood?

I gave a cm worth in a syringe today for a routine blood test and as I always have done in the past, I nearly passed out after.

Most people would say that this is because I am a vegan, in fact many people would not bother wasting mental energy considering other causes, but I have two questions...

If this is caused by vegan anaemia why did I (every time) suffer the same reaction to the same thing when I was a meat eater?

And if I am SO anaemic so as to suffer so much losing such a small quantity of blood, how come I don't have any other anaemia sypmtoms at all, and never have had?

Basically, is this likely to be psychosomatic, or is there something I'm forgetting?

(The test was done because by law all immigrants to this country are required to be HIV tested)

A person doesn't pass out from losing 1 cm of blood. But people have been known to pass out just from having a needle inserted into their arm. You did what everyone does - try to reason out why it happened, which is why you thought the vegetarian diet might be responsible. I'd bet it's all psychosomatic.

Vegans always look a bit pastey to me, maybe the shock of the pain got to him..?

All in the mind, yes, I would prefer that than to know I have to make a choice between being a vegan which is important to me and having some red blood cells somewhere in my body, somewhere.

Anyway, thanks, I suspected as much. Of the six who went today three were also veggie, they were all fine.

I'm hoping not to have the same reaction tomorrow when I get the results.

Vegans usually look a bit pale to me too, I've been assured by the strongest anti-vegetarians, informed or not, that I don't look in the slightest bit pale. As for pain, if you saw me in the gym you'd count me out of that theory too. Thing is about vegans, very few of the ones I know do it properly. You have to eat a lot of grains, beans, seeds etc. Most of them don't, and then look pale. Serious vegans are fit as fiddles, note Martina Navratilova, Carl Lewis, Stephanie Powers, Alicia Silverstone...

Anyway, moving off topic here, thanks for replying to my post.

I have many chinese friends, so i can well believe that you are healthy, it's just that most of the western vegans i've met are kinda....welll..they look like they need a good feed.

Thanks. I do get the feeling that I was expecting it to happen like it did. Maybe next time I'll program my mind to expect blessings of love and prosperity instead. If my mind can put me through that then I think stronger than I thought.

Have you ever passed out when someone has fought with you and given you a bloody nose?
