Another smart thing I did was put a siege engine in the front rank, before I learnt how to reassign troops properly. The gunners must have shat themselves...
But they did rather make a mess of that fort. Does anyone know if a ruined fortification self-repairs?

What rank would you put your siege machines in? I know that the machines have first hits at a fortification before the battle phase begins and each machine has a 50% chance of causing 1 damage. So, does it really matter since they take no further part in the battle and could rather absorb the damage inflicted by your enemy? Or would they be better off in the reserves? I suspect first rank is better.

Why would you put them in first rank? They can only absorb 1/2 a hit and won't last long. Knocking down the defensive ability of a fortification even one degree can be worth quite a few combat strength and hit points if your opponent has a number of troops in the fort. To the reserves they go.

Aquitaine, Denmark and Teutonic Knights are definitely non-RHP.

I've been puzzled by the lack of activity from France, so this might explain it ie he's not making moves.
If Byzantium's not making moves - it would have been for only one turn, so I hardly think so.
Knightwest posted a message this week asking for help in the game. Do you know if he got sorted out or not?

We must preserve the purity of our blood!
All I know is that the emails of France, Byzantium, and the Hafsids do not match the ones they supplied me with. Either they changed their own email address or they've been replaced.

Fortifications self-repair one level per turn. If you want them back up to strength quicker, you can pay for additional repairs yourself.

Yes, but they fire first and cause damage before the battle phase. Thereafter, I would think they're expendible.

Even if they're ruined?

I presume so, yes.

(Shrug) Only if you don't have another fortification to take. They're pretty expensive (6 gold) for only absorbing a 1/2 hit point.

There's something in the MD forum saying that the Age of Games e-mail is down. I know I never got an e-mail this turn and I don't think anybody else did. Unless it's fixed soon, next turn could be a major problem.

EDIT: If you "Send Ambassador" from the Headquarters page, you'll get their e-mail address(es).

EDIT, EDIT: Apparently my EDIT is wrong; ...[text shortened]... countries in the game you haven't begged to go to war against the Republic for ya.😉
No, actually, I want to know whom to target after you have been wiped from the map. 🙂

Wow.

I just spent about an hour reading through all this. I think I'm hooked.

Tell me when the next game starts!

It is rather enjoyable. But based on looking at how many turns games last, it may be 6 months before this one is over.

Wasn't there some talk about starting a Napoleonic Era one? What happened with that?

Go to the Napoleonic Empires Sign Up Sheet thread on the general forum. We're looking for players.

It's addictive.

That's a good reason to stay away from it. It's very tempting, but I think I couldn't handle another addiction. It's bad enough to be addicted to chess and the aurora.
