i'm not going to name names, but there seem to be a few of these about here at GF. what's the story here? a lot of people think that ability at chess is an indicator of intelligence, but the evidence suggests otherwise. i'd like to advance a theory, which i think is quite elegant in its simplicity and explanatory power. it is simply this:

that such people dedicate much less of their brain to general intelligence tasks than a non-chess-player of equal overall intelligence, and dedicate correspondingly more specifically to chess-related tasks. extreme cases are a type of idiot-savant. one question i am interested in is, are the effects reversible? that is, could such a moron somehow, perhaps over a rehabilitation period lasting years, increase their general intelligence back to normal levels, at the expense of their chess ability?

if someone here is on a funding panel (university or otherwise) and would like to fund research into this (USD 1,000,000.00 should do it), PM me. also, if you are one of the afore-mentioned morons and would like to participate in this research (involves pre-frontal lobotomy, but never mind, you won't notice a thing), ask your carer to PM me (you know, the one who is reading this out to you).

Elegant theory, indeed.

My caretaker says it'll be ok. He says I smoke enough and nobody will ever know there were tests.

By 'special prize' do you mean some sort of 'treatment in the shower room'
by other inmates of the same correctional facility?

Which one is better to evaluate intelligence: chess ratings, IQ tests or average Sudoku-solving speed?

If and only if the woman does not have perky, firm breasts.

If she does, then the specimen's valid career option is companion
for a wealthy man.

Do you mean the sophisticated and dangerous mobster who terrorizes
his neighborhood while riding a bicycle?

Or his lesbian mistress?

If the second option is the one you are referring to, my belief is that
that anthropomorphic being without a penis would surrender to the
TRUTH by falling to my knees after serving me a chilled Budweiser.
