Anyone wanting to check out the power of Van's voice need only to listen to his duet with Mark Knopfler on Knopfler's album 'Sailing To Philadelphia'

The song is called 'The Last Laugh', Mark starts the song, singing pleasantly. But Van totally 'owns' the song when he comes in with the line 'Games you thought you'd learned'. It is remarkable and quite stunning

Agreed. Van's entry on that Knopfler song is so unexpected and superbe.

I was never a big fan of Ray Charles, until he put out an album of duets, wh/was a fantastic album. Van, of course, sang superbely w/ Ray on that album.

He does a very understated, respectful cover of 'I can't stop loving you' (big Ray Charles song) on his 'Hymns to the Silence' album
