Funny, I just watched a program not too long ago where they took a room full of coffee drinkers and served them all sorts of various coffees....from the very expensive, the name brands and even instant cofee.

Just because most people that live in countries with no espresso tradition haven't ever tasted a good espresso doesn't mean that there is no difference.
Put a large number of average people tasting wine and probably most of them can't tell a difference. Same with music or cinema, for that matter. To really enjoy some things, one must know something about them.
