What year was that? I also spent a couple of years there, at NKP air base up north on the Mekong. I was a civilian, 1972-74, working on an old form of microwave communications called tropo-scatter. Went to Bangkok a lot, played chess at a restaurant there called the Hungarian Grotto, ever hear of it? Road my motorcycle around the north, Changmai, visited the Karen hill tribes, generally had a blast.
