Only six more weeks...

Only six more weeks until Christmas, 2009. Wondering about the extent to which families within your community may be cutting back on superfluous greeting cards, lavish gifts, traditional festivities with all the usual trimmings and extravagant travel this time around. My gut sense of the USA is that in many devastated areas family budget belts will be tightened even further and that only glances and memories may be exchanged this year. Interested in your read of both the local and overall situations.

It's so sad. Perhaps we'll get a Christmas stimulus package of a few billion dollars so people can afford to buy presents. Christmas is too big to fail.

Excuse me, I meant a holidays stimulus package, since the word Christmas is not politically correct.

Wow what a coincidence that's what I did too except of course my limit was only $9,400.00 CDN because of the exchange rate eh. Oh BTW would you mind, after I max them out, if I changed my name from Great Big Stees to Rookie?

In some ways, the recession may be a blessing in disguise. People will spend less
time thinking about good gifts and more time thinking about good will. It can't hurt.

Christmas will be the same as usual....I will raid my Christmas Club account as I do every year. There might be 1 or 2 fewer presents as usual, tho.

I'm expecting this Christmas to be like every other. My hubby and I have begun the present planning, like years gone by, saying 'this year, we'll spend less, just a simple one this time.' Then, as usual, we have gradually spent more then we planned and in the end we'll spend all that we have and give the kids more then they expected and more then we planed.

Sounds as though the Spirit of Christmas past is alive and well

in your home. I'm happy for you and your children especially.
