My Mom's blasting this song in the other room. It's the war song written during World War I by James Cohen I believe.

The guy singing it was the fruitiest, pansiest sounding guy possible next to Mandy Patinkin. This is a WAR song! I want a MAN singing that crap. A man who chews nails and has killed more men than he can remember.

Anyone know a more appropriate artist who has sung this song? Someone like George C. Scott when he played Patton?

james m. cohen was a american stage performer and songwriter who was born on the 3rd of july (but liked to say he was born on the 4th of july )..jimmy cagney played cohen in the film about this
fine stage performer. he also sang "remember me to herald square", "a
yankee doodle dandy" and many other songs popular in his day....i saw this
film many times as a child and i always liked it...it was a black and white musical of course...you may actually be hearing the cagney version of the song..james cagney usually played tough guys ( he smashed a half grapefruit into a film actresses face in one scene and he played many 1930
gangster roles..."you dirty rat, you dirty rat,you"..etc.
