I know this subject has been discussed very lenghty here

But I just had a look at Prefect's profile and seen that a strong 1700 player has been pushed back to 1260 thanks to timeouts ...

I'd like to take the opportunity to congratulate all those pathetic looser's timing Prefect out whilst on vacation (automatic tournament games and players excluded) ... You really are true chess players !!!

These time-outs has happened despite Prefect indicating that he is going to be back on the 7th of August ...

Well, you certainly have my respect NOT

His timeout losses all appear to be tournament games. He plays in a lot of tournaments.

Please do your homework before you try to start a riot.

And if I dare suggest that we should have a meaningful "vacation flag" system that actually pauses games (whilst preventing it from being abused (as I have done on many occasions)) the vast majority of vocal regular subscribed site users will be against it - so what can you do?!

I currently have two games up with Prefect and I have already solemnly promised myself that I won't time him out, for I also noticed this quick decline in his rating and it really is pathetic. I kind of agree with Exy's post but can only imagine there must be one or two ways people will find to abuse that. A interesting idea though.

So you don't know neither then ... I ain't going through every single game, but I know that he plays an awful lot of games and for sure amongst some tournament time-outs are a lot of normal and clan games ...

And I don't want to start a riot here (no point anyway), but I'd like to point out how pathetic some people are timing out people that are on holiday, set their vacation flag, don't abuse it, and even write exactly when they are coming back ...

Well is there anything else you can do ??

Sure time him out, it's your right but it ain't gonna get acknowledged by any decent chess player at RHP ...

Now you can rip me apart again, but that is my point of view guys/girls ...

Actually Boris, I just went and checked, and EVERY single one of his timeouts are from tournament games. So in all actuality they all could have been from the auto timeout. And even if they weren't, they probably would have hit the auto timeout before he got back anyway. So there's no one to accuse this time. Sorry.

What no-one to blame, not even Rob ???

hmm... seems that I should really have done my homework first, oh what the h*ll, with a little luck I have done some prevention work with this thread ... So if you are playing Prefect, give him some courtesy and wait till the 7th, and am sure he will continue in his usual way

Regards
Boris

No-one is to blame cos this the current accepted system but if you want to prevent this injustice then some sort of vacation system that stops all play will need to be implemented.

In Tourny's 2 days after a time out it gives the person a win no matter what.

Livinglegend is now getting timed out with his vacation flag up and not just tournament games 🙁, I'm with you Exy(and many others) that this system needs changing. Russ did say he was going to look into the system back in May and see about changing it before the holiday season started 🙁.

I have the same situation. I am playing Banash, and his rating, while on holiday, has gone from around 1700 to 1247.

I strongly support a better holiday system.

I am going to take the position that if you get timed out in a game, then it's your own darn fault. You have to manage your own games responsibly, nobody else is going to do it for you. If you know you're likely to take a long vacation, then only play games with longer timeouts and/or timebanks. People who claim timeout victories are doing nothing wrong, it's well within their rights to do so. In fact, I think ALL timeouts should be automatic, not just tournament games. When you start a game, you've agreed to certain parameters under which that game will proceed. If you violate those parameters then you should be held accountable.

I have played 339 games here and have never been timed out. Why? Because I manage my own games responsibly and not because I think I should be able to flaunt the timeout agreement and get away with it. But if something did come up and I got timed out, then I'd take my lumps and move on. I might hope that my opponent wouldn't time me out, but I wouldn't count on it. That's the way it goes people. So quit your whining and just play your games.
