I know this subject has been discussed very lenghty here
But I just had a look at Prefect's profile and seen that a strong 1700 player has been pushed back to 1260 thanks to timeouts ...
I'd like to take the opportunity to congratulate all those pathetic looser's timing Prefect out whilst on vacation (automatic tournament games and players excluded) ... You really are true chess players !!!
These time-outs has happened despite Prefect indicating that he is going to be back on the 7th of August ...
Well, you certainly have my respect NOT

P-
I currently have two games up with Prefect and I have already solemnly promised myself that I won't time him out, for I also noticed this quick decline in his rating and it really is pathetic. I kind of agree with Exy's post but can only imagine there must be one or two ways people will find to abuse that. A interesting idea though.

plays a lot of tournaments
So you don't know neither then ... I ain't going through every single game, but I know that he plays an awful lot of games and for sure amongst some tournament time-outs are a lot of normal and clan games ...
And I don't want to start a riot here (no point anyway), but I'd like to point out how pathetic some people are timing out people that are on holiday, set their vacation flag, don't abuse it, and even write exactly when they are coming back ...
Well is there anything else you can do ??
Sure time him out, it's your right but it ain't gonna get acknowledged by any decent chess player at RHP ...
Now you can rip me apart again, but that is my point of view guys/girls ...

So there's no one to accuse this time. Sorry.

hmm... seems that I should really have done my homework first, oh what the h*ll, with a little luck I have done some prevention work with this thread ... So if you are playing Prefect, give him some courtesy and wait till the 7th, and am sure he will continue in his usual way

I am going to take the position that if you get timed out in a game, then it's your own darn fault. You have to manage your own games responsibly, nobody else is going to do it for you. If you know you're likely to take a long vacation, then only play games with longer timeouts and/or timebanks. People who claim timeout victories are doing nothing wrong, it's well within their rights to do so. In fact, I think ALL timeouts should be automatic, not just tournament games. When you start a game, you've agreed to certain parameters under which that game will proceed. If you violate those parameters then you should be held accountable.
I have played 339 games here and have never been timed out. Why? Because I manage my own games responsibly and not because I think I should be able to flaunt the timeout agreement and get away with it. But if something did come up and I got timed out, then I'd take my lumps and move on. I might hope that my opponent wouldn't time me out, but I wouldn't count on it. That's the way it goes people. So quit your whining and just play your games.
