Did you feel that?

Why are so many of you having a problem with someone wanting to rec a private post to show appreciation? It's not as if this feature has been used as intended anyway. Admit it. The whole idea has failed in this site since incredibly stupid posts like: "I don't want recs" are recced abundently.

I remember when I began taking interest in these forums (not too long ago admittedly). I used recommended posts to skip straight to the interesting topics, but seriously: it took less than an evening to figure out that those pages wouldn't really lead me to anything interesting at all. The good discussions were held where almost no recs were handed out.

Instead, I simply look at the threadtitles to discern which ones are interesting to me. And I've learned that some posters are more worthwhile reading than others. So if I don't have time to read every damn thread on the first page, I simply step into those in which my favourite posters has participated (usually through their profile pages).

And if I want to show someone appreciation I rec their posts. If reccing were possible in private forums, it would be great. Then noone would be bothered if I recced the hell out of someone in there, because it wouldn't show in the public forums (except in rec-number). But since that's not reality, I see no problem with using a failed system in a way that makes sense to me: to show appreciation for other posters.

And to hell with the rest them.

Donkeys? Show your appreciation. Rec me 'til I drop in a pool of thankful tears.

Sure. Go ahead and abuse the rec system just like you abuse the vacation flag. What the hell do we care?

Seriously though, do whatever the hell you want, just don't expect me (and others who agree that your idea is detrimental to the already flailing rec system) to say it's a good idea. It would be the final nail in the coffin, if you ask me.

Noone actually asked you children if you agreed, so... there you go. πŸ™‚

Actually, trevor had a better idea. I think I'll drop this one and go with his. It won't get in your way, so you can all go back to playing with your buckets and spades. πŸ˜€

(And for those who were offended by that, please understand how incredibly amusing it is when a baby puts it that way. Or don't. What do I care?)

I don't abuse the vacation flag. I'm glad I make such an impression you've felt I've been around much lately. I step in here as often as I can (I do like this site a lot), but I'm gone for days at a time, and most often when I look in here I have no time to actually make moves (with threads like this one lying about).

But that's right. You don't care. Which is why you felt the urge to make a point, right? πŸ˜€

Exactly. That's why private forums cluttering the general forum for the purpose of giving away recs is a ridiculous idea. Or should the donkeys be the only ones allowed to have a reccing thread?

And that question is the same as: "Do you people agree with us wanting to show each other appreciation using the rec system"? No, the question was why you have a problem with it, not if you're having a problem with it. You've stated that from page 1.

There is a problem with it becuase the posts you are reccing are not in the public domain, whilst the count of recs is. This is both illogical and stupid. I'll say it again; it just seems like you guys are trying to make up for your pitiful number of recs by trying to rec in private forums.
