The term heads up is also use in hockey, when an opponent is going to check a team mate from behind. Everyone will Holler HEADS UP!!!
ok, i see, i suppose being hit on the head with one of those little lack 'pucks', is not much fun. Seems like the Americans and Canadians are always helmeted up for contact sports.

Guess it's usually a good day if during any 'Golden 24' one's vocabulary is improved (even with street talk and slang). As to "heads up", I,ve never associated the phrase with basketball, competitive events or team sports. Always thought its connotation in any venue was 'advance notice'. Implication that someone's head was or is down to begin with seems somewhat humorous.

.
yes GB, its good, i love American colloquialisms 🙂

If you're smart you wear a helmet. 😉

I some how can't see Phlabby playing hockey.

Perhaps ice dancing would be more in his comfort zone.

Best cooked and mashed with butter, salt and pepper, served with mashed tatties and vegetarian haggis. Washed down with a fine Irish beer.

Hey now!~ I've a cracked rib from playing pond hockey. I was left forward (proper term me up if you like) and this kid got tired of me ScOrInG so he stick checked me AFTER a pass to center ice full body into that rib on my right side just below the rib that connects to the sternum. Left a calcium deposit almost as big as a golf ball.

Ok, if you insist. 😉

You played left wing & I'm surprised you played.

Did the hockey injury end your pond hockey?
