Hi all. I just up loaded my entry but buggered it up by not putting it in any category.
The deadline will expire in a few hours so get your entries in now if you have them.
I want to thank all those who entered and we will have judgment of entries in the next week or two.
The CATEGORIES ARE:
1. Best Original Piece
2. Best Solo Instrumental (pieces with vocals excluded, pieces with more than one instrument track recorded excluded too)
3. Best Group Instrumental (no vocals, any number of musicians!)
4. Best solo with vocals
5. Best Band with vocals
6. Best Computer Generated piece
7. Best Musician.
So there are quite a few categories for less than 30 entrants but as I stated previously I want to compare entries by the resources each person/group had and this seems the fairest way to me.
Additionally, most original pieces are able for three categories recognising the extra effort that you guys took.
Thanks again.

I think there are some entries that don't have the name of the entrant in the file name, it would be nice to know where they come from. I also don't know if it's clear in all cases whether the piece is original, and if not, where it comes from. Maybe everybody who has entered something could write the title and additional information here or send it to you, and then you could make a list of all entries? Such a list would also be helpful for voting. My entries are:
"Kitchen Music" (original, solo instrumental)
Zoltán Kodály, Sonata for cello solo, 1st movement (solo instrumental)

Demonseed, I think you are missing an overall category? And I think you need to list which entries/entrants are eligible for each category. "Original", for example, can mean different things to different folks.
Is it mandatory for entrants to vote? (I hope so) Can people vote for their own entries? (I hope not). Do people vote for only one entry/entrant per category or is there some ranking of entires? Will you be starting a new thread for voting?
Originally posted by GatecrasherLol. Actually no pot at all... One water-filled salad bowl played with a wooden spoon and eight glasses filled with different amounts of water played with a butter knife and two teaspoons. But I played them all myself and only used one track, so it's still a solo. Most percussion solos have more than one instrument.

Edit: Did anyone else's uploaded version sound different to their recorded version?
Mine sounds like a different recording.
Originally posted by GatecrasherI would suggest it covers vocals as well. If you can think of a better title let me know.
See, I would have thought that was for the best performer, ie someone who plays a musical instrument.
Edit: I wasn't messing about the upload question, the tempo has changed on mine - it's about 40 seconds faster and the tone is dire - though it does suggest that I can play triplets faster than I actually can so I may just stick with it 😀
Originally posted by GatecrasherI would say that anyone who creates a musical piece is a musician. It would still be different from "best entry", because you might vote for the overall impression of a musician rather than a specific piece if someone has entered several pieces. I think we should have a vote for the best entry, either in addition or instead of "best musician".

Originally posted by NordlysI think instead would be better then since we have quite a few categories already.

Best musician is the overall category.

I found this video of a Koshkin piece, Usher Waltz, not done by him but a very good guitarist. It looks like it might be a white house concert, the fence looks a bit like the white house fencing.

How should we organise the voting?
PS Thanks sonhouse, I had never heard "rain" before but "Usher Waltz" is Koshkin's best known piece: John Williams does an excellent version.
Originally posted by demonseedIIRC we could only vote for one entry per category the last time, but I'd suggest that you can vote for three or so. It's a bit more work (both for the voters and for the person who counts the votes), but sometimes it's almost impossible to choose just one favourite.
