Congratulations, Sarah! 🙂 Hey Rag, why didn't I get a Canon 1EOS (or three of them)? 😠 😉 Oh, and I am still waiting for the explanation of "101".

I found that this round was quite different from the other rounds. In the other rounds, I was mostly looking for pictures which look nice. In this round I was looking for pictures which convey a message. And due to the subject, this could mean that a picture should not look nice. That was my problem with "the new country". It looks great. I love how the wire sparkles in the sunshine, and I like the perspective. It looks so nice that I find it hard to concentrate on the message. On the other hand, it could be that this is part of the message, and that gave me some interesting thoughts. So I was very much in doubt how I should rate that picture. Ragnorak's "The Simple Life" was different, because the beauty was clearly a part of the message.

"My Precious" and "The Foot of Bush" were nice ideas, but at least for me, the pictures didn't communicate those ideas well enough. I wouldn't have understood the message without the titles. There's nothing wrong with that - the combination of a picture and text can be a powerful way to communicate an idea. But in a photography competition, I am looking for pictures which speak for themselves.

Today I finally got all pictures for my first series ready, sheesh. Now I only have to decide which pictures to throw out, and then I'll start on the second series. There probably won't be a third one.

hahaha.. 101 american beginners classes. room 101 to Orwell in 1984 was the room Big Brothers "Thought Police" held to torture "thought criminals" it contained the prisoners worst possible fear... eww. Take a choice but I'd take cheerleaders 101 any day.

When will series open Rag? Bet you're getting some fab ones.

You mean the American beginners classes are called 101 because they remind of Orwell's room 101??? 😲

Dear Nordlys
I have been absorbed in flickr recently. I came across a Canadian guy who posts brilliant astrophotos and some neat auroras too. He posts as "peteman" his own site is http://www.spacehutobservatory.ca/ I think you'll love it. Enjoy.

Apologies for not opening the round yet. It should hopefully happen within the next 24 hours.

No, no, Nordlys... most american freshman university courses are numbered 101... all freshman classes are in the 100 series... 200 series is usually sophomore classes, etc

so something like "biology 101" would usually be "an introduction to college biology" or something to that effect...

I think he overexplained with the Orwell reference...

Thanks. I had a quick look, will go back tomorrow.

Judging from your "haha", you didn't really mean that the beginners classes are named after "1984". In that case, that still leaves me with my question. Maybe nobody knows the answer?

Edit: Okay, the answer came while I was writing. Thanks, Suzianne! 🙂

Yes, there was a full stop, but I thought you would answer my question, and the only answer provided was the Orwell one.

Cheerleading does sound kind of bad. It's not my worst fear, but maybe there are some people who can't think of anything worse (cheerleadophobes? ). So they could have a cheerleading class in room 101.
