I cant see anything wrong with his appointment as Rooney got what he deserved, you cant kick someone in the groin and think that you will stay on .

Should have been Benito Archundia!

Also, I totally agree with Franz Beckenbauer's comment on players asking for cards!

The ref was useless. He should have blown for a foul on Rooney before the incident and Rooney was stepping backwards so how anyone can call it as deliberate is just jumping to conclusions.

He should have booked Ronaldo for running from the edge of the pitch and getting involved in an incident that had nothing to do with him.

FIFA are showing off. There attitude is "We're in charge and don't forget it".

Blatter is a peacock who is only interested in one thing. Himself. The whole organisation needs shaking up.

Dr wu has said it, pretty much.
The ref was going to penalise the Portugese players but changed his mind due to protestations from the players.
No ref should allow himself to be influenced in this way.

I do not know how you can possibly say that Rooney was stepping back have another look at it as i have just done and you will see him kick backwards, and besides Rooney knew he was there ,he just let the situation get to him and lost his cool.

Are you as blind as the friggin refs? He was overbalancing, he had to put his foot down somewhere - even Rooney can't hover. I've watched it many times and it is clear to anyone, [who isn't Portugese, Irish, or Scottish or just dumb, or both] that it was accidental.

Marcus Merk would have been better...he is the next Collina.

Just read that this ref speaks neither French or Italian; surely they should be picking someone who can communicate well with both teams?

No, it isn't. For the 100th time. La Marca and L'Equipe (for example) agree it was definitely a red card.

Open your friggin eyes.

Maybe they don't like the English. The Italian press were quite neutral about the incident.
