Why are non-subscribers allowed to post? 95% of the crap in the forums comes from non-members
🙂
5% from me??

Yep - and I put my money where my mouth is. I am fed up with all the tight freeloaders, too mean to join the community, but always ready to stir trouble.
My Opinion:
Get rid off all non-subscribers from the forums and this site would improve 1000%. In fact as a test let Russ stop everyone not willing to pay from posting for a month and see how things improve.
I may even offer a compromise and allow Russ to set up a forum just for the cheapskates and double-nickers, so they could air their "views" in a Non Payer Forum and no where else
Sounds Sensible to me
🙂

I don't agree that all non-subscribers only post rubbish; I'm sure there are just as many rubbish-posting subscribers.
On the other hand, the forums are a great benefit that I feel are worth paying for.
Banning non-subscribers from posting seems a little draconian though.
Perhaps it might be better to limit them to 15 or 20 posts per month.
That way, those who see the value of the forums might be more inclined to subscribe and enjoy unlimited access.

I'd love to know why you think that paying $30 is going to make these people any more eloquent.

More to the point, my posts are so bloody excellent I should be PAID for them!

Though I'm a generous sort of fellow, so I'll accept a handful of free chess games as payment. And my games are so good, I should be PAID for them!

Blimey, I thought this site was free. I'm losing money here .......

What is your contention? That people who don't subscribe are more likely to partake in petty RHP crime waves, run hustling thread scams, and generally clutter up what would otherwise be a civilised, pleasant and elite forum. Settle, King James.

I think your posts in this thread are hellishly ironic.

Perhaps, less Draconian, a banning of non-subscribers from STARTING threads. This is the main pollutor in the forums.

I agree with the point that non-subscribers often seem to start new threads with nonsense, rather than post nonsense in an otherwise on-going thread, but I don't agree with a ban.

A better idea in my view would be to limit their posting abilities to the 'HELP' and 'MEET OPPONENTS' fora, until such time as they have completed something like 250 moves. This way they would be showing a vested interest in the site and not just spamming aad nauseum from day one. Call it an initiation period if you like.

i'll second that!

all new posts from new non-subscribers used to be read by the mods. i think it's no longer possible anymore, but it was a good system and i'm sure if we could get some willing volunteers...😉
