I won't. I'm studying to become an Electrical Engineer. Should my studies include how to build a house despite the fact that has nothing to do with what my job will be?

I fear the day I get on XNZ's Electric Train.

Casey Jones was a fine engineer.

You, an electrical engineer?...scary! Come on miss sheep, all engineers are taught advanced mathematics, some physics, other subjects enough to at least "CRUDELY", as I staed in my last post, to build a house. Engineers are taught to BUILD!!! CREATE!!! DESIGN!! I know people with 8th-grade educations that can build nice houses. Are you admitting that you are stupid? If so, I'd change my Major to Physical Education or Basket weaving.....

Anyone can build a house... but why would you think the guy who needs to drive YOUR electric trains should build a house better than the guy who builds rockets or transplants hearts?

Building a house is much different than building an electric circuit on a piece of silicon or anything else.

Anyone can build a house....

Edit: Sorry Phlababit, I didn't see that you just said that. We must be on the same wavelenth (sinusoidal I think). 😉

Yes I learn a hell of a lot of math (more than most other engineering disciplines), however this is directed at solving problems related to electronics. Laplace transforms for solving differential equations, Fourier analysis to deconstruct frequency signals, Linear Algebra to solve equations with many unknowns and so on.

I did learn mechanics last year but really it was pretty basic stuff. I wouldn't want to use it to design a house. Follow plans? Yeah that's nothing more than being able to read and follow instructions. Design? That requires a lot of analysis dedicated to whether this beam or that strut will be carrying too much weight. I'm not learning those skills as they aren't relevant to me.

He built his house all by his lonesome in 8th grade... at the age of 19.

It's amazing what the industrious lad did with only a couple of boxes and a roll of duct tape.
