Second Life

Anyone here on Second life? Been so much about it in the media in Australia over the last six months and i'm wondering what all the fuss is about.
How do you start? Does it cost real cash or how can you earn income as a newborn Second Lifer? Can an average PC run it or do you need kick-butt video capabilities? Do you like/hate it? Is it ruining social interaction or enhancing it?
