A Hull newspaper reported the horror of a sickened Aldi customer who found the remnants of an animal anus and rectum in her tin of stewed steak. My revulsion is that the customer did not want to be reminded that her meat came from what was a living, breathing, creature with an anus, just like herself.

recently i opened a can of chicken breast
the pasteurization didn't quite work and there was a chunk of mold growing inside
my revulsion at finding a plant growing where i wanted flesh to be unsullied was instant and i chucked the whole thing in the bin
and opened another for my breakfast
humans have evolved to be omnivores
i do not disrespect anyone their own dietary desires and/or restrictions
choose what you wish to eat
so will i
now that i think about it
if i had chucked that tin of chicken into a pan of boiling water,
added so much cajun spice that nothing could be tasted,
closed my eyeballs and stuffed it into my mouth
i'll bet i'd find that cooked mold was semi-nutritious
@rookie54 saidIsn’t mold like penicillin?🤔

Isn’t mold like penicillin?🤔
mold creates penicillin as a by-product of its consumption of whatever it happens to be growing upon
you wouldn't think of yerself as poop, right?
@rookie54 saidSo if you eat the moldy chicken breast the mold is likely to have produced the by product?🤔

@Great-Big-Stees saidIt is very unlikely ...there are hundreds of strains ranging from very toxic to mostly harmless

@Great-Big-Stees saidHow can you tell if canned food has botulism?
Isn’t mold like penicillin?🤔
When in doubt, throw it out!
The container is leaking, bulging, or swollen.
The container looks damaged, cracked, or abnormal.
The container spurts liquid or foam when opened.
The food is discolored, moldy, or smells bad.
@rookie54 saidOnly things that should be canned is soup, beans and sweetcorn.

@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidGood point. I haven't made it in years, it's so easy... rice, milk, sugar, cinnamon.
And rice pudding.
@A-Unique-Nickname saidCan's pretty good. (Just add a dash of cream and a dollop of jam).

Minimal faff.
