Indeed, tis a sad thing. Rifles all but finished the feudal system and put pay to an age, the likes of which will n'er be seen again.

I'm guessing but I imagine the body count in late feudal Japanese battles must have been quite high, what with the innovation of the arquebus, cannons and all.
