I find Starbuck over priced here and their coffee cost more than I believe it is worth. I believe it is more for people that have money (a social thing), not that I don't, but I can't see spending the kind of money they are looking for here, were I can get better across the road at McDonalds for cheaper price. I am a good tipper and probably wind up paying more with the tip. At least I know the money I give as a tip is needed.

Tipping is not really a British thing. (Excluding taxis, hairdressers and restaurants).

So you tip taxis, hairdressers and waitresses at Restaurants, but not the person in the McDonald's or Tim's? Interesting indeed.

Yeah, pretty much. More likely to tip for table service (so never McDonalds).

You mean on the service of the waiter or waitress I assume.

You obviously never eat in at McDonald's. 🙂

I think it's more for receiving a personal service. - So the person who brings your meal to the table, the person who cuts your hair, the driver who takes you to your destination. etc.

Very rarely venture into McDonalds, but have done so.

We don't tip taxis, hairdressers as they often run their own business. I might tip a waitress but rarely so - never McDonalds or places like that. You bring the food to your table and clear the table when you leave. In some countries, leaving tips is an insult.

Take it you don't know how good the service can be in McDonald's if it is anything like it is in our Province here in Canada. They will take the food and what ever your drinking to your table, find out if you want anything else and if you do get if for you. It is not as classy as a Restaurant, but then you don't expect it to be as everything is cheaper, than in a restaurant. So I think they are indeed doing a personal service. Now if you're just taking it out, I can see you not tipping, personally I do. They as a rule are lower paid and depend on their tips!!!

Really tipping is an insult in some Countries? Luckily I don't travel much or I'd be insulting a lot People unknowingly. 😉

We have many immigrants here in Canada so what people should I be aware of not to tip, as I tip everyone. 🙂

Of course I wouldn't want to knowingly insult anyone.

It wouldn't be an insult among people in Canada but in their own countries it would. You can google.

I don't think immigrants forget their culture or customs just because they live here. We had a case where a girl who was an immigrant was killed because she had sex with a young man before she was married. She was from another country he was from Canada and a Canadian citizen who wasn't an immigrant. So their culture does follow them, I don't think the country they are in changes that if they are first generation.

Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, Hong Kong

These are countries which we don't visit often or at all, but it's good to know that not all cultures are like ours. My experience of America is that tipping is more or less compulsory, it's just a matter of percentage.
