Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, Hong Kong
These are countries which we don't visit often or at all, but it's good to know that not all cultures are like ours. My experience of America is that tipping is more or less compulsory, it's just a matter of percentage.
Sweden makes that list, your thoughts?
Everything is so expensive in Singapore people can't afford to Tip 😅
The tipping system in the states is ridiculous, much like a lot of the country generally. Their wages for waiters are so low it's expected to cover that.
People tip a bit at restaurants in the UK/Ireland, sometimes delivery people or even taxis (don't agree with that one). But I don't think a lot, they get paid the minimum or close to the minimum wage that millions of others are on.
Egypt is on that list I provided. Complete rubbish they don't want tips from my experience there.
@A-Unique-Nickname saidIn Sweden tipping is not necessary. I have stopped tipping taxi drivers and lunch restaurants and mostly when dining out too. It makes things easier. 🙂

In countries where underpaid staff very much depends on tipping I don't hesitate.
@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidSnow of any colour 😲
If someone asks for a tip, I tell them, "don't eat yellow snow."
Back to coffee, do you know where was surprisingly good for breakfast and coffee, the pizza express down from Queensway station.
@Torunn saidIt's also not fair on the staff in the kitchen, many are paid the same low wages as the waiters but they don't receive any tips.

@A-Unique-Nickname saidBest coffee in London is (use to be) in Camden Market, where the chap ground the beans himself. Was like drinking silk.

@Torunn,
McDonald's have the original Tim Horton's Coffee bean, which I enjoyed then they kept making it stronger and stronger at Tim's. It got to a point where I found it hard on my stomach. I find McDonald's who do use the Tim's original coffee bean much milder. Some don't like it and would rather the Tim's there are line ups at both outlets all over the ...[text shortened]... that would be -20 C here but we do go down to -30. We consider it very cold after -30C 🙂

and yes, for 1$ a cup, McDonald's coffee is terrific.
@A-Unique-Nickname saidIn the US?
It's also not fair on the staff in the kitchen, many are paid the same low wages as the waiters but they don't receive any tips.
@mike69 saidUK/Ireland. Yes the head chef, sous chef etc will get paid well usually but not entry level or dish washers etc. They're get if not minimum wage, very close to it. Their hours won't be guaranteed usually and there's no tips.
In the US?
No idea about the US, should be different considering tipping makes up the vast majority of a waiters wage.
@A-Unique-Nickname
For servers in a good restaurant here they make decent money. The better you are the larger the station, and the more you can upsell the larger the tips. I’ve had servers that can make $600. a day in tips on weekend shifts that have a lot of regulars. Servers tip their cooks well usually to get their food faster equaling better tips, but the cooks also make more than minimum wage. Dishwashers usually not much over but less skill. Servers are supposed to claim all their tips but most don’t, maybe 8 to 10%. Yes the kitchen managers can make decent money, the manager/chef made almost 70k plus monthly bonus if food and labor cost are good.
@Earl-of-Trumps saidLOL...I guess it has been years/Decades actually, since you bought a coffee at McDonald's!!!

@Torunn saidI always ask as I don't want it shared, I want the person I gave it too to have it, the rest had nothing to do with her service exception the ones who cooked the Food.
Some restaurants practice collecting the tips and share it equally among the servers .
I still believe the waitress/waiter should get the Tip.
