I think you have that backwards. If you look at the back of a book sold in North America, the American Dollar amount is lower than the Canadian dollar.
Example:
Robert Frost's Poems
U.S. $5.99
CAN. $8.99
Thus, it takes more Canadian Dollars than American Dollars to buy the same product. Therefore, the American Dollar has a greater value.
