Good news to those of us who have been holding off buying the Boxed Sets of the individual TNG seasons.
As you probably know - the individual boxed sets each run about 100 dollars (US) each. Very pricey when you consider there are 7 seasons to complete a set.
Well - I just happened across a site that says on October 26th, there will be a COMPLETE boxed set of all seven seasons released. A total of 48 discs! I found a price of approximately 500 dollars (US) at a site called superduperclub.com. As far as I can tell you don't have to join this "club" or whatever and they have a good rating at mysimon.
Anyway, just wanted to post the good news. Seems this turtle has some saving up to do. One penny, two pennies, three pennies....
Originally posted by turtlexi am not too big a fan of the Delancie Q - especially in the early episodes. he really is a bit spoiled and childish. in fact, he tends to be rather that way no matter where i've seen him eg as beka's horrid uncle in Andromeda or even that so-called political prisoner in Macgyver. The other Qs though were very different in that they tended to make a sincere effort to deal with their powers responsibly.
Great thoughts... anyone else?
however, the Delancie Q does have one of the best lines in the series (can't quite recall the episode), imho. when riker tries to point out that Q's (delaying) antics are going to cause the suffering and deaths of thousands of people, the latter responds with "Oh you humans are always suffering and dying."
Now it is noteworthy to see that the Delancie Q does evolve both over TNG and even more so in Voyager into a reasonably noble creature. Just goes to show you that anyone - even Q can be influenced by the series. 😉

Originally posted by kirksey957the ferengi are pretty nasty in TNG, but do become comical and even heroic in DS9.
Whenever there is humor on TNG it seems that the Pherengie are the ones who are most often the vehicles for this as they are seen as unenlightened and only interested in usary. Quark is perfectly cast as a bartender. Any fans of the Pherengie?
a most terrible travesty occurs in voyager (i think they only appear once in that series) where the 2 ferengi who got 'lost' in the delta quadrant (from a TNG episode), are found again by janeway's crew who try bringing them back with them.
well, i wrote earlier how bad voyager's security was and this is an outstanding example. the 2 ferengi not only escape the brig under tuvok et al's very eyes, but they also manage to get through the wormhole that voyager was hoping to use to return to the alpha quadrant.
this was a very sad moment for our galaxy 🙁

I definitely agree about Q getting sort of silly at times. I liked him better when he was acting as a foil to Captain Picard. I often thought he'd show up in one of the movies, but alas...
I've never been a fan of the Ferengi. Even on DS9, though prad is correct that they did turn into heroic/admirable characters.
Sometimes, I think, Trek tried too hard to bring in other species. For instance, I never liked Kes and was not sad to see her go. Neelix could have been any race, the character is just sort of there.
Worf is an excellent use of an alien species as far as the series goes. He's couragous, very Klingon and his races history is integrated into his character.
I know someone posted about Redemption and though it was great to see Denise Crosby back on TNG (yes, I am a Tasha Yar fan) the character of Sela had some wonderful possibilities that just were never brought to completion.

After foolishing falling for the TOS post - thinking it was a reference to The Original Series (star trek speak for the kirk years) - I got into a small discussion with prad regarding TNG.
We thought it might be some fun talking about ...[text shortened]... ts pick one and discuss!

Absolutely, Captain Picard is my captain. His sense of morality, friendliness, compassion and leadership was indeed an inspiration!
Has anyone read the book Make it So! I am thinking of reading it...it's about Picard's leadership skills.

Personally, I like Denise a lot and thought the character was great. "Yesterday's Enterprise" is one of my favorite episodes.

Anyone ever see the "Trekkies" DVD? Its a documentary about Star Trek fans? It's pretty cool.
"Trekkies 2" is out now. I haven't seen it yet but hears its good as well.
there are some excellent moments in it such as when nichelle nicols relates that wonderful story about the letter she received from a nine year old girl who was amazed to see that a black person on tv wasn't cast as a maid or servant.
the girl told her, "Well when I was nine years old Star Trek came on. I looked at it and I went screaming through the house, "Come here, mum, everybody, come quick, come quick, there's a black lady on television and she ain't no maid!" I knew right then and there I could be anything I wanted to be."
and so she did. the little girl went on to become whoopi goldberg!

Originally asked by ncrosby in a game messagetie between Data, odo (on ds9) and the doc on voyager. all three characters assume a human form but are not human. Whilst they explore humanity it reflects the humanity of the characters they interact with. And therefore shows us our on strenghts and weaknesses.
Who is your favorite Star Trek character by the way?
The influence of Star Trek on people and science in general is immeasureable. Countless NASA astronauts have listed Star Trek as a major influence in their lives.
Dr. Sally Ride has proudly proclaimed herself a Star Trek fan and also credits Nichelle Nichols as an inspiration.
There's a reason the first space shuttle orbitter was named "Enterprise". It wasn't just the fans write in campaign.
Personally, I think my favorite character has to be Captain Jean-Luc Picard. He truly is a "person" (read = character) who can be looked up to and admired.
Secondly, I think Tasha Yar. What little we have heard of her, her bravery and loyalty and self-sacrifice stand out.
Picard called Worf "the bravest man I have ever known", and that is something incredible and honorable as well, someone to look up to.
The fact that there are so many character, with so many traits, which appeal to so many people, makes Star Trek (any incarnation) timeless.

...I must add this - My all time favorite Voyager moment is when the Doctor and Seven of Nine duet on "You are my sunshine". It's a great moment.
