Let's get it sewn up fair and square, and if the weather does play a part in it, let it be the weather saving the Aussies asses from another embarrassing defeat. And so say all of us. 😀
I predict half the test rained off leading to a draw and therefore the win for England. I said it at the start of this year and I'll say it agian. We're gonna win the Ashes!

I have been foolishly optimistic all summer but I am not starting to think the Aussies will win this last Test. Don't know why.
I hope I am wrong.

The prediction in the first message in this thread is looking pretty good! 2-1 to England and Australia winning the first match.
After reading through a handful of these messages, it obviously that the English supports are DESPERATE for victory! - and after 16 years of getting whipped, who could blame them? ..it's been a long time between drinks!
What a great series it's been! Some real exciting finishes to the matches - although, it'd be fair to say that England had really outplayed the Aussies most of the way through those matches - 2nd, 3rd and 4th. England have played very well and deserve their lead (even though they were so close to going down 2-0 -- hardly justice eh?) but by the same token, the Aussies have played particularly poorly - especially the batsmen. This is probably due to some good bowling.. but some poor batting too. They've spent
too much time playing against teams bowling party pies to them! Now there's some quality.. so more caution required!
Strauss and Flintoff digging us out of a bit of a hole.
With Collingwood now in the team, we have a very short tail.
Giles has been poor with the bat this series, but if you count him, then we bat down to 9, with only Hoggard and Harmy the real tail (although Giles probably counts as tail against Warne 🙁).
Originally posted by VargI'd say Hoggy can support one of the higher order for ages just prodding them back down the pitch. And Harmison can hit a few sixes for a quick 30 or so. Collingwood couldn't do worse than Bell, so I'd say we've got a resaonable tail. Stop being so down Varg, get in the groove, England are go!

EDIT: 239 for 4, Strauss gets his 100!

I thought it was upbeat talking about our batting strength.
True, Hoggy can block and Harmy can slog.
Giles can bat - in SA he hit about 35 every innings, but he has struggled this series.
I am more optimistic now - and this partnership goes past 100.
