I think you are being a bit hard on the General forum. Do I think most of the topics suck? Sure. I imagine much of whatever I bring up others probably think suck as well. You will get the occasional teenie-weenies who will hijack but generally its ignored.
It's so funny to me how all the forums tend to be very clique-ish, like high school. You have your "cool kids" who write and are responded to and rec-ed all the time. Then you have your "dorks" who maybe bring up uninteresting topics to the General room and maybe have one response...oh well.
Still it's a great deal of more fun here than it is in the Christianity (whoops I mean) "Spirituality" forum. I'm glad that forum exists as I was an advocate for it but talk about a wasteland. At least now it is isolated just there.

I do like the General Forum, and I do like your analogy about the High School thing...very accurate.
I suppose my only beef, is that nobody has anything to SAY in here, most of the time. But then again, I guess nobody really has anything to say in real life, either.
Maybe I'm just being too picky. It really doesn't matter, anyway. This thread will be dead and on page 2 in about 2 hours, tops. So it's all relevant, anyway.

This is a cyclical discussion, if you go back through the boards history you will see this discussion pops up now and again.
In answer to your question, it seems the same to me as it was a year ago. but compared to a couple of years ago it is very poor. You have to remember we have about 10 different forums on RHP and many external ones that people visit - this in itself dilutes the quality drastically. Also, I have noticed the genral forum to become much "younger" in its out look, this probably dates back to the abomination that was the original "longest thread ever" a few years ago and the infusion of rhp "pups" at the time spamming the hell out of the forums.
I would say the question is not "is the general forum going downhill", but why have all the better posters left?

I hear you, and I'm not really thrashing the General Forum on purpose. I think more content (or I should say more valued content) has been found in the Debates forum. Some would argue Spirituality has value but the only value I see it having is that it's easier to avoid now. I think it has been almost the unsaid, unoffiical intention of the General forum to be "fluffy" and lacking of substance. Maybe I am wrong.
