First letters may not, necessarily, be the last word.

Correction: The last word is "Pawn"

"If your opponent attempts to seize the last word for themselves, be careful to point out the folly of this strategy, perhaps citing this project page. Alternatively, state that since your opponent loves to get the last word, you will graciously cede it to them. These clever techniques allow you to simultaneously regain the last word for yourself while making any sort of reply from your opponent seem in bad faith."

I would never try to seize the last word for myself. My claim that "pawn" is the last word is an acknowledgement of that fact. If you scroll to the bottom of every page in this thread, you will see the truth of it. This, of course, cedes the last word to Russ & Chris. However, I'm sure the point is still debatable. Please feel free to correct me.

This is the last line visible on my screen. Whether the last "word" is "Pawn" or "Oct" is debatable, wouldn't you say?

I agree that the abbreviation for October might constitute a word. however there can be no argument that pawn does constitute a word. I will restate my claim that pawn is in fact the last word. You may of course disagree.

Since "abbreviation" is itself a word, I think that at least common abbreviations should be accepted as words.

You may be correct.

Does the last word have to be spoken, or maybe just "thought?"

I've run across people that want to resort to violence (not horrible violence, just enough to stop the utterance of the argument) while saying "take that" in order to end the madness.
