Remember that brutal match Sweden had with Team Canada? Shoot - that had to be late 1960's because Bobby Orr was still playing. Bloody...? wow.
@earl-of-trumps saidDo you have a link? I know Bobby Orr signed with Boston in the Mid 60's!

@very-rusty saidTeam Canada played 4 games with team CCCP (USSR) in 4 cities in Canada. The series then shifted to Moscow for games 5-8. But in between sets, Canada stopped in Stockholm to play Team Sweden in a 3 game tilt. The Soviets were p!ssed because it upstaged the real match, Canada v USSR and team USSR had no one to spar with.

@very-rusty saidnope. As soon as that season ended, Orr went for surgery on his knee. Esposito played. It was all the same players that played on Team Canada v Team USSR, except when they left Sweden, one Canadian player was hurt so bad he was all done and had to go home. And that was from a fight. Vicious. blood everywhere. It was as bad as I ever saw. Can't recall who he was but obviously a good player to be there. This was an all star team. I think Harry Sinden coached them.
Also did Bobby Orr play in it?

@earl-of-trumps saidHad to google of course and that is what I found. Mind you, ice hockey was a big thing in Sweden at that time and big sports events were not so many as now. Even I recall the big things. 🙂
@Torunn
Wasn't Olympics but nice try :-)

@torunn saidIce hockey may not seem quite as important today but part of that is more sports going on. Yes this event was very special back in the day.

here's the whole game::
And VR, the player that got hurt bad was Wayne Cashman from my Boston Bruins. No wonder why I remembered it so well.
He almost got his tongue ripped out. There was a link in google but it had expired.
Hey this was 1972. the only people interested in this bit of ancient history are old and from depleted ranks lol
