He was hanging on to both of them but he let the nine year old go. It turns out the nine year old lived anyway but I can't even contemplate making that choice. Imagine how screwed up that nine year old is now and imagine how screwed up the dad is?
I agree with Joe Fist. How could any parent make that choice?

I think Joe Fist may be confusing his California flood story with a situation from the Tsunami.
I could have sworn I heard it on the local newscast of that type of situation but I could have gotten them confused...sorry if that's the case.
In any case, I do believe this situation did indeed happen and it would be horrifying just the same.

me too! and trailers too.
never sad ones though.
usually if they have slow motion.
eg: in the uk do you remember the orange text message ad in the arctic ('night night x'😉?
that makes me weep like a baby every time.
Not so much the whole film, but the scene in 'Whale Rider' where the little girl is trying to give a speech while fighting back tears because her grandfather didn't turn up to see it is one of the most heart wrenching pieces I've ever seen. The girl is one fantastic actress, I swear she wasn't really acting, she was actually crying for real.

Afraid to step into the light
And some people need to help somebody
When the edge of surrender's in sight
Don't you worry
It's gonna be all right
Cause i'm always ready
I won't let you out of my sight
I'll be ready
Never you fear
I'll be ready
Forever and always - I'm always here
Within us we all have the power
Though sometimes its so hard to see
That instinct is stronger than reason
Tut its just human nature to me
Don't you worry
It's gonna be all right
Cause i'm always ready
I won't let you out of my sight
I'll be ready
Never you fear
I'll be ready
Forever and always - I'm always here

Doesn't it just get you right there? :'(
