It always fascinates me when I see players who possess the legendary spinning star.

My question is, however, how much of a sacrifice do you think it is to become an elite mover and could I do it also?

Not too much sacrifice depending on your schedule. I happened to be homeschooled, and have had many long periods of time off for medical reasons, so it wasn't too hard to get. And anybody can do it. It just depends on how quickly you want to move.

If you make 3000 (give or take) moves a month from now on, it'll take a little less than 2 1/2 years. That's just a starting point, though. I think you'd be able to make more moves than that if you wanted to.

At my rate, then, it'll take me 25 years.

I find my problem is that, although I play quite quickly, I look for a mate as soon as I have an advantage - therefore most of my games finish around move 30 (which is probably supposed to be the correct average length of a game, but also makes it tricky for me to stockpile so many moves.)

Maybe I should try and be a bit more sadistic when I am material up against lower players and spend hundreds of moves just dancing about and winning all their pieces. That would probably help me out, provided they didnt resign.
