I believed goats were the male counterparts to sheep and that all sheep were females. This was finally dispelled when I was 41 years old.

I believed ~ or at least claimed to believe ~ that I had been born on the ferry between Holyhead and Dun Laoghaire because in my mind - or perhaps I wanted other people's minds to think - it accounted for my cognitive dissonance - as a 7 year old in his fifth primary school - regarding my combination of Irishness and Britishness, and northerness and southerness.
