Ok, here's a list of phrases I hear over and over that make no sense. If you do this, please stop. You sound like an idiot to your friends.

"I could care less".....Really? so you care a little bit about it then? What you mean to say is " I COULDN'T care less"....think about it.

"Put that on the counter so it can unthaw".....UNTHAW? What does that mean, refreeze?? The word is THAW.

"it was in the last place i looked" Of course it was you genius!...Why would you keep looking for it after you found it????

"She was killed in cold blood"....I don't even know what this means. Humans have warm blood so unless she was sitting in a pile of blood outside in winter............

Your friends thank you and so would Professor Higgins.

Killing in cold blood is saying the murderer killed with no thought, much like a shark or alligator may do. No regard for life. Nothing to do with the victim's blood.

Do you spell out the words when you speak or just ignore the intent of the postings entirely.

10 points for being the first spell checker though....bravo.

Next time I write prolly, instead of probably, i'll remember your advice dam it. Oops, damn it...wouldn't want to use any shortcuts here.

Obviously I could care less about this thread, but dam! That response is cold.

You should leave it out for a while to unthaw it.

Again, intent versus meaning. It would be nice if the intent matched the meaning and the difference between the spoken versus the written was understood.

"it was in the last place i looked"

Those two make sense to me. Maybe they could care less and do care a little bit. And the second is totally logical.

I think that they just annoy you. have a popsicle.

Your initial post revealed that you understood the logic of those phrases. They are correct sentences and you admitted as much.

I think that you're bitter over the Canadians being so, so mediocre over the past few years.

"Spanking the monkey" is the one that does my head in.
That and: "...you know?"

Along the lines of: "I was at the beach, you know."
No. I don't, and frankly my dear, I don't give a damn either.

I was under the impression it meant that you did not kill in 'hot blood', ie. that you didn't kill in the spur of the moment passion, but rather in a calculated, premeditated way.

The whole point is you've had plenty of time to think about it and still chose to do it. Isn't this the difference between murder 1 and murder 2 in the states?

How about "irregardless" ? The word is regard.

How about when someone is speaking about someone who performs a computation?..."He had to computate it." The word is compute.

Another funny one I heard. An engineer was referring to an emergency generator that was powering a critical system. He was informing the contractor that they were ready to convert the system so they could turn off the generator, but he said "You can degenerate the system now."
