do you mean the Montreal CANADIENS, or just Canadians as a whole. I can't tell.

SO, "if It could be worse", and "It couldn't be worse" mean the same thing, then how do you tell when someone actually means the situation could be a lot worse than it currently is?

Your posting could be worse.

Am I saying it couldn't be worse, or it could be worse than it is?
Why would the person even tell you a situation could be a lot worse unless it was already bad? typically, so bad that they need to point out the fact that it could be worse as an attempt to maintain positive outlook.

Your initial argument as to phrases you don't like to hear indicates no amount of intelligence whatsoever, only a complete disregard for the colloquialisms in your own language and no understanding of cultural literacy. Maybe we should make posts in latin instead of our ugly vernacular? It's not that you (and people like you) are stupid, but you are horribly out of touch with the evolutions in your own language and are unwilling to except the progress brought about by cultural influence.

Imagine a world where we never progressed past classical music, renaissance art, or, god forbid, stone tools, just because the 'educated' thought it would be a good idea.

Ok, here's a list of phrases I hear over and over that make no sense. If you do this, please stop. You sound like an idiot to your friends.

"I could care less".....Really? so you care a little bit about it then? What you mean to say is " I COULDN'T care less"....think about it.

"Put that on the counter so it can unthaw".....UNTHAW? What does that m ...[text shortened]... e in winter............

Your friends thank you and so would Professor Higgins.
English is not an exact science. Perhaps we use the language improperly. I understand that Greek is the most accurate language.

From what I understand, accuracy isn't quite the word, but the further back you go, the more complicated the languages seem to get. Sanskrit, for example.

Actually no. I just posted part of George Carlin's comedy routine from a few years ago.

No one seemed to catch on so I ran with it when most of you didn't get it.

Although, I disagree with you when you say our language is "evolving"...more like mutating into something Ridley Scott suggested in Blade Runner. Western English is starting to resemble the Singlish spoken in Singapore. At some point, English (as spoken by Shakespeare) will mutate into a lesser form than what it is today as English becomes spoken more and more around the world due to globalization. We will see what amounts to different dialects of english spoken in different countries.

I prefer these ones he did myself...

1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?

2 People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually.

3 When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?

4 When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!

5 When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.

6 People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?

7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.

8 When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

9 When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here, dumbass?

"not to mention ..." - oops, just did...

Conditional clauses are sometimes used in a weird way, for example: "If you haven't been told, there will be a party tomorrow." (And if you have been told, it'll be cancelled?)
