ya but you would be dumpster diving. dunking donuts throws out giant garbage bags full of untouched donuts. pizza hut throws out complete untouched pizzas right out of the oven. etc.. etc....
they don't give the food away because: they're lazy, they don't give a fk, there's too much food waste, and they might get sued by someone that has a problem with some of the food.
conclusion: ppl r major a-holes. i was working at pizza inn, and talked to the owner about this very topic. his main point was that ppl could sue him. then i told him about the 40 cats and kittens that hang out at the dumpster and that he could just collect all the pizza throughout the day in a box as they were scraping things off into the trash. and then just throw it out on the ground for the cats. told him that they wouldn't sue him. he just didn't give a fk. ya ppl are: selfish, inconsiderate, uncaring, short-sighted, imbeciles who's lost touch with their consciences and divine being.

He also used to go to another place and get sheeps heads, I though that was taking it a little bit too far. Another time he came round my house with boxes and boxes of plastic cups with powdered coffee in them [for machines I guessed]

Point to consider in this lawsuit happy society we live in. Let's just suppose these food establishments did give away this food that's being thrown out. Let's also suppose that someone takes it home and doesn't eat it right away. Now, can anyone tell me how fast food borne organisms can grow? Now let's suppose this person after a couple days decides to eat this food and gets violently sick. Who's getting sued?
Another point to consider, if they give away this food, how long will it be before the public finds out and says, hey, why should I buy it, when I can just wait a few days and get it for free. Not much of a business then is there?

When I was young we didn't have much money and I used to wait behind the bakers and they always gave me a big bag of mixed cakes and bread. Same with the local Co-Op, although this was strictly not allowed, but when you aint got much, in those days people helped you out by turning a blind eye.
School dinners were also given to the pigs. And whetever they didn't eat we got the following day 😀
