proper shops my housing estate had 3 butchers, 2 bakers, 2 grocers,2 chemists, 2 fish shops 2 newsagents, 1 hairdressers, 1 dentist, 2 pubs,1 shop that sold wool,2 fruit & veg shops, 1 hardware ,2 bookies, Great times.

We’re lucky in this busy village, still only one charity shop and lots of people frequenting 2 newish bars. The outdoor seating arrangements are popular and are helping places make up for their losses caused by lockdown. Still no sign of the Chinese takeaway reopening though?

No internet, no mobile phones, no fake news (not as we know it today anyway), no covid, no Trump, no contrived outrage, no climate worries. It was a long time ago but seems like it was only recent.

Fake news were at least on the air when Goebbels reigned above Nazi broadcasting...

Two thousand years too late at least. The Romans and Greeks were into agitprop as well. And I don't know enough about Achenaten's publications to claim that a millennium earlier, the Egyptians were or weren't. (And never mind the lying Chinese.)
